A Cosmic Revelation! - Coinslot June 2001

In any discussion involving touch screens, the name of Terry Farr is sure to pop up sooner or later.

Terry's enthusiasm and dedication to the genre knows no bounds and, at the recent Pub Culture exhibition, the Cosmic stand proved that Farr and his team intend to maintain their innovative, agressive and progressive approach to promote the Merit product range to even greater heights.

Here at Coinslot we have often spoken about the possibilities of bringing advertisers into the loop in the hope that, one day, everyone may benefit from the additional revenue stream. Sadly, there have been only a few examples of success - until now!

To our astonishment the Cosmic stand at the Pub Culture show was festooned with big brand names including Virgin, Michelob and Pelican Rouge. To celebrate the launch of TournaMAXX, Cosmic unveiled the very flexible TournaMAXX Mega Link Rig - five Maxx upright games machines running on an intranet to allow "head to head" challenges and daily on-line tournaments.

Throughout the show, the Cosmic team used the new five-up rig to run tournaments using a different Merit game on each day, kicking off with then very successful BOXXI. The prize on day one, sponsored by Virgin Anhauser Busch, was a Ryder-cup Michelob Golf Bag. On day two, Anna Pearton won a hot air balloon ride through the countryside of Kent sponsored by Virgin Soft Drinks. By the third day, the the women took over as the male players were trounced and the winner walked away with a coffee machine courtesy of Pelican Rouge.

Farr said: "Tyrone Wier of Anhausen Busch was very excited at the potential for this new form of marketing and complemented us on our direct approach to product advertising using full screen true colour brand advertising on the customised Mega Link five player rig."

Speaking about the opportunities now available on the latest TournaMAXX system, he confirmed: "We have intriguing games, big prizes and the immediacy provided by an Internet connection. Players are now able to visit the www.tournamaxx.com website on which access is fun, functional and designed to create player loyalty, but most importantly there is an operator's web area that allows very sophisticated machine monitoring without leaving the office."
