Need for Speed is ready for Shipping! - Coinslot June 2005

US manufacturer Global VR has announced that the highly anticipated coin-op version of Need for Speed Underground is now ship- ping. Since its initial test debut at well-known American auto show, Hot Import Daze, the game has been tuned to attract the most casual players while providing a unique driving experience for expert drivers.
The development of Need for Speed Underground has involved rigorous testing and user feedback, claims the firm, is the "key" to its strong reception from operators and players.
"Thanks to the many operators who participated in the large-scale Need for Speed Underground field test, we've received feed- back from hundreds of locations and players;' commented Wes Harris, director of product marketing. "This allowed us to quickly deter- mine what areas of the product could be improved, then test our changes in multiple locations. We fine-tuned selection screens, car handling, difficulty, game features, and hardware features and looking at earnings, as well as players' feedback, we are convinced that we got it right."

When asked about the expectations of advanced players John Ray producer of Need for Speed Underground and the RUSH series of games offered: "Our new smart card format players' card offers many new game options. By using a players' card to access 'Career Mode', players will not only have the opportunity to polish their game and build their dream cars, they will be able to continually customize their car as their improved racing skills are rewarded with upgrades. Then, they can save their personalized car for use in amusement mode."
According to Global, players and operators will appreciate the dramatic appearance of the Need for Speed Underground cabinet. A neon-blue glow surrounds the cabinet's console gauges, seat, and floor causing it to resemble the under body neon lighting of a real car kit and raising its visibility in locations. Other notable features include force- feedback steering, flat -screen, high -resolution monitors, surround sound, a 6-speed shifter and a Smartcard reader. Dedicated cabinets will all be outfitted with card dispensers making it easy for players to get their cards, register and start playing career mode or participating in cash prize tournaments.
